Who is Argos?

Argos is one of the UK's favourite retailers, recognised for offering choice, value and convenience. Over 18 million people a year shop with us online or in our more than 700 high street stores and we employ some 33,000 people across the business.

We sell a wide range of general merchandise and products for the home. In the last financial year, over a quarter of our €4.5 billion sales were made over the internet, and our main UK website is always in the top five of most visited high street retail websites. We have been selling a specially selected range of over 8,000 products to customers in Spain since 2008. Now our new dual language website aims to bring all the advantages of our big buying power, keen prices and fast delivery to even more people across the country.

Where are you based?

Argos's European headquarters are in Milton Keynes, a major UK city just outside London. The warehouse that serves our customers in Spain is located in Sheffield, close to the UK motorway network. Our Customer Services teams and the call centre staff you reach via our local rate phone number are currently based in London.

Argos and the environment

At Argos we believe in taking a responsible approach to our environment. We're committed to reducing the impact our business has on the environment as well as helping you to do the same. We're working hard to reduce the amount of resources we use and the amount of CO2 emissions we produce.

Some of our recent achievements

• 78% of the waste we produce is recycled
• Home Retail Group plc (the owner of Argos) has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard which certifies that we have genuinely reduced our carbon footprint
• 80% reduction in waste sent to landfill sites
• 90% wood is sourced from sustainable or known and legal sources

Our future commitments

• Reduce landfill tonnage by a further 25%
• Achieve recycling rates of over 82%
• Achieve 60% reduction in the consumption of carrier bags (vs 2005)
• 80% reduction in waste sent to landfill sites
• Introduce packaging reductions on a fifth of the product range, targeting a 3,000 tonne packaging saving over the three years 2008/09 and 2011/12
• Achieve a further 2% reduction in energy consumption (kWh/sq ft) year on year
• Reduce our energy consumption by 40% by 2020( vs 2006)
